HIPAA V5010 / ICD10 CONVERSION
Regulatory Mandated Deadlines
Effective Date of the Regulation: March 17, 2009
The Federal Government has mandated that all HIPAA EDI users must convert from version V4010 (A1) to V5010 by January 1, 2012. There are two compliance-testing levels.

The Level 1 internal testing should be completed by January 1, 2011

The Level II external testing with trading partners must be completed January 1, 2012
All covered entities must be fully compliant on January 1, 2012

HS modifies HIPAA code sets and Electronic Transaction Standards

Time for healthcare organizations to begin migrations

The need to produce the means to process 5010 transactions starts now

5010 transactions can be implemented any time
-
Plan for concurrent support of 4010 and 5010 transactions

The effort has to occur anyway. It shouldn't be made worse by having to play catch up.
